Utah's Employment Summary: September 2016

Utah’s September 2016 employment grew by an estimated 2.9 percent, adding 39,800 jobs to the economy as compared to September 2015. Utah’s current employment level registers 1,434,200.

September’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate declined three-tenths from August to 3.4 percent. Approximately 50,700 Utahns were unemployed in the month and actively seeking work. The national unemployment rate crept up one tenth of a percentage point from August to 5.0 percent. More...

USOR Transitions to Workforce Services

On Oct. 1, 2016, the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR)—the state agency that serves individuals with disabilities—officially transitioned to the Utah Department of Workforce Services. 

Gov. Gary R. Herbert officially welcomed the USOR staff to the executive branch on Oct. 3 at the Division of Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Salt Lake City. The governor also declared October as Disability Employment Awareness Month to raise awareness about disability employment issues and to celebrate the contributions of individuals with disabilities.

“This transition will allow USOR to receive improved support for their staff and clients. Employees will be enabled to better address the individual needs of community members, and the quality of services offered will be enhanced,” Gov.
